Honoring The Masculine

As I was falling asleep last night, constructing a very different blog post than the one you are currently reading, this thought popped into my head: "but what about the men??"….Which got me thinking in a totally opposite direction.  Now, I don't know what portion of my readership is represented by the masculine part of the population, but I know there are a few out there.  (Hello Men!  So happy you are here!)  I am aware that I talk a lot about feminine energy, the moon, women circles, and lady issues.  This is because it is the soul path I am on right now…the path to reclaiming and creating a more intimate relationship to my divine wild feminine being.  If you were to ask me who my target market is in my healing practice, women are the overriding gender.

But I still love my men too.

So, in case there was any question, this post is to let the men know that I haven't forgotten about you.

There's some negative connotations to using the word "feminist" (and as you probably know by now, I proudly consider myself a feminist).  I'm not a bra-burning (I actually adore wearing a bra!), man-basher.  While I am against the oppression of hierarchical patriarchy and devaluing the feminine (a topic for another post!), I value and respect masculine energy and spirituality.  I believe each of us has the beautiful capacity to hold a balance of masculine and feminine within our being.

My work in the world may be geared towards women most of the time, but I am also here to love up and support men.  Whatever gender you identify with and whatever your predominant energy is, I am here to hold space for you.  We are in this together and we need each other if we want to heal the world.

A long while ago, I read a beautiful piece on the healing power of the masculine by Danielle LaPorte that really moved me (read her full post here).  She says, "Fierce.  Proud.  Soft.  The Masculine needs all three elements to rise.  If the Masculine has confidence without tenderness, it can turn to arrogance.  And then there's no real invitation for The Feminine to show up.  And all softness with no fierceness, well that doesn't give The Feminine a very safe resting place to unfold - and what The Feminine really, really wants to do, is unfold."

I have been blessed with some fierce, proud, tender men in my life.  Some have come and gone.  Some are sticking around for a good long time.   I want to acknowledge that I wouldn't be where I am today or who I am today without my men and without a good dose of masculine energy.  I see you.  I honor you.  I remember you.  I am grateful for you.  I value your friendship, your kinship, your love, your insights, your gifts, your strength.  I hold space for your shadows, your emotions, your vulnerability, and your fears.  Thank you for the lessons you've taught me and the support you've given me.  By giving witness to your masculinity, it also creates space to honor my own masculine energy, which often gets the shaft.  So thank you also for that.  And thank you for the the resting place so that I may unfold.

So to the men who have crossed my path during the journey and to those who I am yet to meet… I love you.  Here's to you!  I send you gratitude and light as you travel throughout the rivers of this life.  (And thank you for being here, even when I wax poetic about cycles, and moons, and woman-things!)

New Years Wish

I was trying to repurpose a blog post I had written before Christmas and I had it beautifully edited and ready for posting yesterday when my safari window closed unexpectedly, bringing to light my huge mistake.  I FORGOT TO SAVE!  (That is a lesson I have now learned the hard way!)  So all of my writing disappeared into the ethers and I flung myself dramatically off of my chair while I bitched and moaned over my loss.  After I finished my temper tantrum, I realized that, with a little mindset shift, I had actually received a gift.  The gift of a fresh start.  Much like the coming new year.

As a woman who loves setting intentions each month (and most of the time, I set MULTIPLE intentions each month), the new year is a great opportunity to harness the momentum of energy that a fresh slate brings to really set some hard core intentions.  And as a health coach, I value setting actionable, doable, simple steps to create change.

But I have to admit, the last couple days I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed and restless with the thought that 2015 is almost here and my intentions are not ready or clear.  I received a BEAUTIFUL new planner from a goddess sister-friend for my birthday and I had not yet written in it and was considering starting in pencil so I could easily erase if need be.  Wha??!!  Where is this overwhelm and anxiety coming from??  There seems to be a lot of pressure and built-up expectations around this time of year and the perfectionist in me has been wary of starting the year off on the "wrong" foot, so to speak.  And at the same time, my free spirit has been wary of setting anything too concretely!  Oh the dilemma!

Thankfully, my man gave me a gentle reminder that, really, it's just another month.  No biggie!  With a deep sigh, I moved from my worrisome mind and into my intuitive body.  And after expressing my concerns and conundrum to my mom, she told me of a simple resolution she saw somewhere on the interwebs: "To love myself more."

Yes!  This I can do!  When taking action steps in the next year (or just focusing on the next month), running it through the filter of whether my choices are coming from a place of love for myself and my body helps bring some clarity and intention.  Does this hold space for me?  Does it respect me?  Does it value me?  In loving myself more, I have more room for spreading love to others too, so that I may hold space for, respect, and value the people around me.  Beautiful!

I also read an article this morning written by fitness and nutrition expert Dr. John Berardi which really resonated with me.  He talked about how most well intentioned health and fitness new years resolutions fail because they don't necessarily take into account "real life" with all the responsibilities and unexpected surprises that come with it.  Fitness goals made OUTSIDE of the context of life won't last long.  He says: "Every single person I've seen achieve health and fitness in the long run accomplishes it by simply showing up every day, not by trying to 'get it right'.  In the end, I have no clue what real life will bring us in 2015.  But we're committed to doing the best we can, when we can, with whatever we've got.  Day in and day out."

I love this perspective.  Showing up.  Just as we are.  Every day.  Every moment.  And doing the best we can.  Because, ultimately, we already are enough.

My wish for you this new year is a whole lot of love and presence in the beautiful moment.  A year full of soulful moments, clear intentions, and healthy healing for a vibrant, alive life.  Thank you for being a part of my 2014 and I look forward to our journey into the adventure the next year holds.

Love and light!

Birthday Blog: Rebirth Reflections

a state of being,
allowing
receiving
becoming one,
with all that is.
— Richard Cohn

Love lights,

Sunday was my birthday….one of my favorite days out of the whole year.  Last year, I gifted myself a healing session with an intuitive healer and, with her holding space for me, I celebrated my "rebirth".

Looking back to my journal of that day near the end of 2013, I set the intention to honor my inner wise woman, to step into (and explore) my divine feminine energy, and to hold the mantra that "my too much is just enough". Hell YES!  I can see all of those things manifesting in my life now in such beautiful ways.

And what an incredible ride this year has been!!  There have been some exhilarating highs and deep lows.  I have faced my sorrows and fears while embracing my joys and dreams.  I struggled with playing the role of the victim while wracked with worry when there were only a few cents in my bank account.  I surrendered to Kali, the goddess of endings and beginnings, as she guided me through a death experience where I shed a part of self (a story to be shared in another blog post).  I called upon my high priestess energy to empower myself with creativity, strength, and inner knowing.

I have witnessed dark and light. And I am here to proclaim the sweet song of self love and the beauty of every breath!

I want to take a moment to honor the place healing and circles have been in my life over this past year.  One reason I find healing work so important is because a single session can give an experience that reverberates into all areas of life beyond the hour or two the session lasts for.  And the ripple effect touches other people beyond self. I love the saying that when you heal yourself you also heal the world.  And taking time each month to go inward and set intentions for myself has been invaluable as I work towards living a soul centered and at home in my body.

In the next year of my life, I look forward to and am grateful for the opportunity to continue offering the service of intuitive health coaching and energy healing sessions, women's circles, and workshops.  Sessions combine my knowledge of nutrition with the intuitive information received directly from your body.  Circles provide space for you to show up to be seen, heard, and loved exactly as you are.  Big changes and subtle shifts occur with this kind of work and I am so honored to hold this space for you.

This year for my birthday, I was feeling frantic and stressed about trying to go to all the glorious healing and holiday events that were happening on my day.  But upon waking, the wisdom of my aging self told me to RELAX, slow down, and just simply enjoy.  There is a healing that happens in the quiet and deep connection with self and soul mates.  So, I spent time just "being", "allowing", and "receiving".  Soaking in the joy of every tiny experience and spending it soulfully and with presence with people I love.   When asked if I have a prediction for the year ahead and what I'm excited for, I decided to hold the intention of abundance and receiving. And I am excited to do work that I love.

If you feel in the stirrings of your heart that you are being called to this type of offering, let's work together. I would be honored to connect with you soulfully in my next abundant year around the sun!

Love and a whole lot of light to you!

Circle Discovery

Over the weekend, I led a private circle for some dear friends I met when I was working as a nanny.  I am so honored that our friendship is growing beyond our roles as fellow caregivers and deeper into sisterhood.

The beautiful thing about sharing in a circle is when you say things out loud discoveries come to you.  This last circle, as I was sharing about what I'd like my sisters to hold in sacred space for me, I realized I have a fear of success.  For MONTHS, I've been holding the wish to have a vibrant and thriving healing practice.  But when it comes right down to it, I am terrified of what that actually means.  Will I be able to handle it when business starts booming?  Can I commit to my work and my purpose?  If I become more successful will there still be room for mistakes and failure?

Which reminds me of the Marianne Williamson quote I've posted before about fearing our own power and capabilities for greatness:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us." -Marianne Williamson

So in these past couple days following this circle and realization, I reflected on this idea.  What does success look like?  And, perhaps more importantly, what does success FEEL like in my body?  As I visualized myself accepting payment for the work that I do (something I've been struggling with) I could feel my body's initial response to tighten up.  Particularly in my pelvis.  A bracing and holding of my muscles.  Tension in my womb center as if to put up a protective barrier.  Huh. Well that's not very conducive to receiving, now is it?  So, I visualized this image again, but with the conscious effort to soften my pelvic muscles.  To open my womb and ground my root into my seat, feeling my feet on the ground, and breathing into my connection to the earth.  Ahhhhh!  Now THAT feels good.  Empowering.  Trusting.  Stable.  Gracious receiving.  Ease and flow.  I want to create (and receive and celebrate) success from this place.  I know this will take some mindful practice, but I am encouraged by the insights my body has for me.

Moving forward, I can approach my action steps for my healing practice from a place of understanding, authenticity, and gentleness instead of unknowingly self-sabotaging myself because of a hidden deep fear.  There can be a time and a place for bracing, barriers, and protection.  But in this particular case, I can feel the fear and keep moving forward despite it by breathing and softening with my feminine energy and then tapping into my masculine energy to put things in place that help me feel supported.  Because I'd much rather do the work I love from a place of ease and balance.

How about you?  What does success look and feel like for you?  Where in your life are you unconsciously blocking your ability to be your best, most successful self?
